The Cottage

The existing staircase in this simple cottage in Dorset was lacking its period characteristics.  By removing some of the components, and renovating the remainder, we were able to give this staircase a new lease of life, enabling our client to ensure a quick sale.

Existing Staircase

Initially, we opened up the area of the staircase by removing the painted uprights.

The finished result

By adding a bottom newel post, we were able to install new handrails and balusters, which continued along the gallery landing.  Also, 17th century angled panelling, and a panelled door, were installed under the stairs, to create a cupboard.
All this work was carried out without the client needing to replace their existing stair carpet.
