Georgian Panelling and Bookcases

Alderwick House

The rooms at Alderwick House bring together painted panelling in an 18th-century manner, concealed jib doors and fitted oak bookcases. Each element is aligned with the architecture so that painted and natural timber work read as parts of the same interior.

Panelling Shaped to Each Elevation

Full-height painted panelling follows the doors, windows, fireplaces and cornices of the rooms. Raised and fielded panels, bolection mouldings and carefully set rails give each wall order while allowing the proportions to change where the architecture requires it.

Bookcases and Concealed Doors

Carved oak bookcases introduce a warmer material against the painted walls. Their mouldings and panel sizes relate to the surrounding joinery, while jib doors continue the wall lines across openings that would otherwise interrupt the room.

The result is practical storage and circulation held within a consistent Georgian framework.

Discuss a Project

Every commission begins with the building and the way it is used. If you are planning panelling, a staircase, a library or other joinery for a period home, we would be glad to hear about it.
